Artist Of The Month – March 2016!
As we move forth into the month of March, the momentum builds immensely as we come to realise that the forthcoming festival season is just over one month away! As line-ups are revealed for our favourite events during the summer and indoor events are slowly coming to a halt, we’re ready to shed those winter boots and coats as we re-emerge from hibernation. The winter has flown by so quickly, especially for all of the producers who have been locked behind studio doors as they let their creativity run wild. Speaking of creativity, the time has come yet again to announce our stand-out artist who will represent the month of March.
Many of you would be aware that we’ve already supported a handful of talents and pioneers within Hardstyle; so this month we’re going for something a little different as we crank up the BPM and welcome one of the most promising names in Hardcore.
Ladies and gents, we introduce to you our artist of the month for March… Furyan!
Within the past few years, Furyan has gone from talent to headliner and it’s no surprise; his sound has been endlessly evolving, revealing some of the most commended productions in modern-day Hardcore. Chosen as our artist of the month, it’s only fair that we take things back a couple of years and take a look at Furyan’s musical journey and rise to success!
Back in the late 90’s and like many other Hardcore fanatics, Charley Schrijn got in touch with the sounds of Hardcore when he listened to the notorious Thunderdome CD’s. At that time, Charley focussed intently on other genres of music and soon scored himself a residency at a nightclub where (believe it or not) he spun jump and early hardstyle. However, his love for hardcore was always brewing in the background and was fervently re-ignited when his friend re-introduced him to the genre, leading him to become motivated to produce his own music.
After learning the tips of the trade and building up his production skills, Furyan was ready to launch himself into the hardcore scene at full force! In 2010, he dropped his first release on Rotterdam Records, which was an EP titled “Inevitable.” Demonstrating a promising quality that was only yet to improve, Furyan went on to release killer tracks “The Music” and “Known Limits” on Adrenaline Tracks in 2012, signifying a huge climb in the scene. Performance-wise, these earlier years were considerably quieter; however Furyan was invited to perform several times at various Neophyte Records tours.
By 2013, Charley had established a robust signature sound that was gaining an abundance of attention from the scene’s pioneers, resulting in him signing to leading hardcore label Neophyte Records. His first EP on the label saw him collaborating with the man himself, Neophyte, to create the hit track “Precious Pain” as well as solo tracks “Conflict” and “Dark Phoenix.” Another mentionable release from 2013 was “Teknology,” a track that showcases a wacky and fascinating sound design whilst retaining the catchiness that Hardcore offers.
These initial releases on Neophyte Records marked a huge breakthrough for Furyan’s evolving sound that consisted of grand atmospheres, top quality production, a tasteful pinch of aggression and intense melodies. Subsequent to these top releases, Furyan’s popularity amongst fans and fellow producers exponentially grew, resulting in bookings at the most exquisite events such as Defqon.1, Q-BASE, The Qontinent, Harmony Of Hardcore, X-Qlusive, District 7 and many more.
The year 2015 marked a truly successful year for this hardcore sensation who kept the momentum high by releasing a ton of incredible tracks such as “Bombshell,” “Rugged,” “Slapeloosheid,” “The Sound” and of course, his massive bootleg of “Dynamite.” Long days and nights locked behind studio doors were really paying off as Furyan’s fan-base was growing to all corners of the globe, with the public recognising him as one of the key names in modern hardcore. Many of you would have also heard of his notorious collaborations with Hardcore legend Nosferatu and of course, the whole #jebentzelfmellow and #jebentzelfterror saga. They even made t-shirts!
Nevertheless, with his productions bursting with intensity, all boundaries were broken as Furyan experimented further with tempo variation and other unique elements, marking a huge diversity within his discography as he reached out to cover many listeners’ preferences.
Looking forward into 2016, Charley has most recently released his “Wrath” EP which contains collaborations “Nightfort” with Kasparov and “Murder” with Bodyshock. With the first of the seven deadly sins out in the open, you can expect the rest of these EP’s throughout the year. He’s also had the honour to officially add his own spin on Tha Playah’s “If You Want It Like That,” which was recently released on Neophyte Records.
A big congrats to Furyan for grabbing our artist of the month title; we can’t wait to hear what wondrous hardcore he’s got cooked up for his fans this year!
