For some it seems like only yesterday when a new style of music came into the world; harder, faster, with more energy than anything that had ever been heard before, created with the emerging technologies of the time and bringing with it a whole new way of living life at the weekend. Rave music, as the emerging sounds were collectively known, broke new ground (and even broke a few laws) to become the foundation of everything we love in our hard dance music scene today and changing the definition of music forever.
The Rave Story is a six day rave culture event from 19th – 24th February at Club Aquarium in London including an art gallery, pop up record shop, four evenings of seminars and an all night rave on the Friday night. This is your opportunity to meet the pioneers of the UK rave scene and hear their stories and experiences first hand.
Following on from a sold-out week of seminars last year and with artists such as Slipmatt, Vibes, Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter and Rat Pack among the guest speakers at the seminars, The Rave Story will be a fascinating trip into rave history both for those who were there and those who wish they’d been there!
Art Gallery and Pop Up Record Shop – Free entry, open Monday-Friday, 10am – 6pm with a licenced bar where you never know who you might have the chance to catch up with! Capturing the creativity of the early rave scene with original paintings and flyers by Pez, Junior Tomlin and Kaos Art, unseen photography from Sam Williams, rare flyers on display, a rave authors corner and of course the chance to pick up some classic gems for your record collection, or as a belated Valentine’s Day gift for the vinyl junkie in your life!
Seminars – featuring over 30 artists across four evenings:
Tuesday – Original Warehouse Stories
Wednesday – The Most Influential Pirate Radio Pioneers
Thursday – Evolution: The Various Musics Rave Inspired
Friday – The Artists Who Inspired So Many, followed by an night rave all the way through until 7am!
