Get well soon, Deetox! – A special tribute to the roughest chick around!
When everything turns to shit, it’s easy to feel as if the legendary Murphy’s Law is at stake. For those of you that have never heard of it, it is more commonly known as a rule of thumb depicting that if anything can go wrong it will. It’s easy to fall into a pit of despair when your life gets flipped like a pancake on a frying pan, especially if the pan hits you very fast.
Recently, artist Diana Zwerwer, or more commonly known as Deetox, became victim to an incredibly unlucky roll of the dice. Whilst walking her dog she was hit by a lightning strike and was immediately rushed to the emergency. Her scheduled attendance at the legendary Defqon.1 festival on the Blue Stage was immediately a no-go.
That’s a pretty instant turn of events, what probably was a time of extreme excitement and perhaps some nervosity for an incredibly huge gig was immediately swapped for days at the hospital. It’s easy for a person to wallow and feel as if the odds are turned against oneself in such a situation, but such at such a time it is crucial to shed some light at the achievements one already has undertaken.
We at AAN decided to post a little list of achievements Diana has fulfilled, and perhaps if she is reading this it’ll cheer her up in what could be one of the most challenging times of her life.
#1. You’ve been almost everywhere you can be in this industry.
You’ve had the honour to play at Airbeat One, C.R.A.F.T, Decibel, Defqon.1, Freaqshow, Ground Zero, Hardshock, InfeXious, Loudness, Qapital, Qontinent, Q-Base, Summerburst, X-Qlusive, and many many more. As a matter of fact, it would seem just by a quick glance at your Partyflock profile that you’ve had a performance almost every weekend.
#2. You’ve performed at Qlimax.
After 5 years in the industry you made it to Qlimax, you were performing as the last Hardstyle DJ of the night and you blew our minds away.
#3. You’re on the lineup for the world’s largest festival.
Ponder on the lineup of Tomorrowland this year and anyone can see that your artist name is indeed there. We hope you can make it, but if not, then let’s hope the organisers give you another shot next year.
#4. ‘The Queen of Raw Hardstyle’
Your fans know you as the queen of their beloved subgenre, probably because you keep demonstrating what true ‘Rawness’ is.
#5. Hardstyle top 100 2016.
You made it to as high a number as 26 on the top 100 Hardstyle tracks of 2016. Your collaborative masterpiece together with Australian legend Delete ‘Alone’ made it to a higher spot than ‘Mellow’ produced by Defqon and Hardstyle legends Showtek, Technoboy & Tuneboy. That’s a pretty hefty achievement if you ask me. Other than that you also appear a few steps down with your track ‘Het Land Van’ together with rapper Lange Frans at spot 46.
#6. You’re a woman in a male dominated industry.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to any Hard Dance enthusiast that majority of the artists are in fact male. Without debating too much about it I drew up some statistics from your very own label. You are currently signed by The Wishlist, a Dutch agency containing 35 artists according to their webpage. Out of those 35 names only you and 3 more artists are actually women who have made it this far in the industry. Roughly, that gives us 89% men and 11% women. I’m not trying to throw a bag of shit at The Wishlist, there are agencies that have no women amongst their ranks at all so this could very well be an incredibly high number.
As mentioned earlier in this article, Murphy’s Law is more commonly known as a saying that if anything can go wrong, it will. However, this is a misconception of the term. It actually means, whatever happen will happen. Meaning it can go both ways, and though it may seem right now like the odds are against you keep in mind what you have accomplished.
Do not forget that we at AAN, your fans, your colleagues and everyone in this scene are rooting for you Diana and we hope to see your name on the lineups for many, many years to come. As soon as you’ve recovered that is!
