“Run With The Renegades!” – The mighty Bass Chaserz talk duo dynamics, partying & more!
Fast-rising duo Bass Chaserz have been on a roll lately! Dropping a stream of impressive releases including “Big Dick” “Jump The F#ck Up” with Endymion and the highly acclaimed hit “Renegades” alongside fellow duo Frequencerz, it’s evident that there’s no stopping this pair on their quest to success!
With their summer agenda filling up fast, we decided it was time to holla at Bass Chaserz and invite them to Alive at Night for the first time. Read this interview which covers their duo dynamics, some sentiments about the Nightbreed clan and of course, the monumental hit “Renegades.”
– Hey guys, welcome to Alive at Night – we’re super excited to have you on the site! First of all, how has 2017 been treating you so far?
Thank you for inviting us! So far, 2017 has been amazing! We’ve already performed at events such as Loudness, QAPITAL and X-Qlusive: Ran-D, we released “Renegades” together with Frequencerz and our new track “The Only Way Is Up” with MC Diesel is coming up soon!
– Over the past year or so, you guys have been on fire! From your perspective, why do you think you’ve risen so drastically?
We’re really happy with how everything has been working out for us. We’ve worked really hard to improve our studio skills and have invested a lot of time in collabs, expanding our network and connecting with colleagues to improve our music knowledge. The realisation for us came as soon as our track “In Control” hit the #1 spot on Hardstyle.com at the beginning of 2016; from that moment on, we thought: the sky’s the limit – let’s rock!
– Surely the road to breakthrough hasn’t been easy. Can you share some of the biggest difficulties and frustrations that you guys have encountered along the way?
On the top of our list is definitely the struggles we’ve encountered in the studio, haha! For example: it’s so frustrating when you spend weeks on a kick and you just can’t seem to align it to your vision!
Also, besides our career as artists, we both still work full-time, which, at times, can be hard to combine. But the most important thing for us is that we still enjoy every minute of working together in the studio and to see our hard work paying off is heart-warming. We’ve had chances to play our music on huge stages, which gives us so much energy to get back in the studio and create more music!
– The standard of your tracks has improved greatly. What were some production techniques you had to work the hardest on?
We try to make each track better than the one before. We’ve always had some trouble with our lead sounds; we couldn’t give it the power we envisioned, however we tried harder and harder and finally found out a way to manage it! We always try new things, even if it won’t work the first few times. If we want something, we never give up until we’ve achieved it.
– As a duo, what are the dynamics like between the two of you in terms of producing music?
We have a studio in the same building as Nosferatu and nearby Endymion, meaning that we can always exchange feedback on tracks with those guys. In terms of our dynamics as a duo, we work together a lot, however if one of us is missing the other can still work alone. With that said, we do prefer working together as we provide each other a lot of inspiration and motivation. That’s actually our main vision: being together and creating a ‘party’ out of every situation we find ourselves in. After all, you can’t create a party by yourself, right?
You can also see this aspect during our performances; it doesn’t matter where we stand, we will always try to create that perfect party vibe!
– Do you ever disagree on things? If so, how do you resolve it?
We guess every ‘relationship’ has its own difficulties and we feel that it’s important to maintain open communication between us. For instance, it’s not good if you say ‘yes’ to everything; we like to discuss different possibilities and come to a solution together.
– Back in 2015 you signed to Nightbreed Records. How has it been to be a part of the clan and of course, to work so closely alongside Endymion?
We already knew the guys for a couple of years and from the moment they started the Nightbreed concept we fully believed and supported their vision. We feel proud to be a part of Nightbreed Records from the beginning and help with growing their label.
In turn, they’ve also helped us a lot with the growth of Bass Chaserz by supporting us with releases and also sharing their knowledge of music with us. Besides that, the guys from Endymion are as crazy as us and love to party too – it’s the perfect combination! 🙂
– For young acts looking to ‘break through,’ in your opinion, what’s the importance of having that support from a well-established artist?
From our perspective, we don’t feel as though we’ve reached that ‘break through’ moment. We’re doing well at the moment; we have a lot of gigs and are scoring many opportunities we feel honoured about, however there’s so much more we can learn – especially from colleagues with more experience than us.
– You even worked alongside the Freqz to great huge hit “Renegades.” Can you tell us a little more about this track and its inspiration?
At The Qontinent last year we began chatting with the boys and immediately came to the decision to collaborate. After that, they also asked us to play beside them at the XXlerator Roughstate label night, which was really amazing!
In terms of the track itself, at first we were looking for the right candidate for the vocals and when we finally found the guy the melody came up instantly! The most incredible moment for us was watching the track being premiered at Qlimax; we were standing in the audience and when we heard “Renegades” being played in front of a packed out GelreDome… Wow, it was indescribable!
– “Renegades,” along with other tracks in your discography, showcase a huge atmosphere as well as a balance between roughness and melodic aspects. What made you guys pursue this ‘route’ of production?
Well, the ‘raw’ scene is becoming pretty dark if you ask us. As we aim to create hard music with a special melodic ‘feeling,’ we decided to aim for the perfect balance between dark and melodic aspects. On the flipside, we have ‘party-based’ tracks such as “Big Dick” and “180!” which are a little harder. Melodic, fun, party and hard is what Bass Chaserz stands for!
– It seems as though a lot of other ‘raw’ names are experimenting more with melodies. What’s your opinion on this?
We think it’s a really good progression. The melodic feels made us fall in love with Hardstyle in the first place, so we definitely support this development.
– Last month you had the opportunity to showcase yourselves in front of a fully-packed Ziggo Dome at QAPITAL. How was the performance?!
WE LOVED IT! Qapital has always been special to us, however this years’ edition was even crazier because we hired a massive party bus to take us and fifty of our friends to the Ziggo Dome! We opened our set with our brand-new track “The Only Way Is Up,” which we couldn’t wait to share with you all! And, of course, the “Renegades” moment was unbelieveable – the whole Ziggo Dome was screaming the lyrics with so much passion and emotion… Totally breath-taking!
– Can you share your excitement for the upcoming festival season?
Our summer looks amazing and there are many gigs we’re extremely excited for! A few we can mention are: Defqon.1, Emporium, Fatality, Intents Festival, Mysteryland with the Freqz and many more to be announced. There’s pure excitement for festival season from our side!
– Finally, what did Bass Chaserz eat for breakfast today?!
We only drink, HAHA BEER!!
