Remember Josh & Wesz? We sure do!

..And really, if you weren’t living under a rock for the past few years, you do too! This energetic duo who are best known for their uplifting melodies, sing- (or rap-) alongs and kick-rolls have probably had most success with their good old 2008ish style, which is right when we at Alive at Night started listening to hardstyle. “Like Thiz” seems to be their biggest hit ever (but we gotta admit, their new track “Retrospect” can steal that throne quite easily – banger!) and we’re sure you’re also familiar with amazing tracks such as “Autumn Green”, “G-Force” and “RHTM”.

We absolutely loved their set at “b2s presents Remember” some weeks ago, and were fortunate enough to sit down with the guys to pick their brains about the good ol‘ times, and Hardstyle in general.

After their set, we were keen to know what they thought of the party itself.

Josh: I fuckin’ loved it! The crowd was awesome, the atmosphere was really good..
Wesz: Yeah, they know every record. They screamed it loud and were singing along
Josh: We’ve got a lot of parties with the Remember vibe, ranging from 2006 to 2010. I think it was the best time for us and hardstyle. At least the Hardstyle we like! It was very diverse.
Wesz: That was the sound of Hardstyle!

We were also wondering what they thought of nowadays raw hardstyle!
Josh: It’s difficult, it’s just not our thing.. We like hard tracks, but when it’s too raw it goes too much in the direction of Hardcore, for us.
Wesz: It doesn’t fit us. It’s not our taste..
Josh: I encourage all the guys who make it and I love that they’re doing good and that they’re hyped as much as possible.. I’m really happy that they have a lot of success!

And since it’s absolutely not their style, we wanted to know what their favourite raw track is!
Wesz: I think something from Adaro.
Josh: Yeah, and Ran-D as well. They just have such a cool sound. It’s not too over-raw, and they’re technically really good. They always try to make something original.

Leaving the raw train again, we wondered what their favourite old Hardstyle track was.
Josh: My favourite old time Hardstyle track I think is probably Technoboy – Atomic, but that’s just personal. The first time I heard that track, I heard the break and I heard the melody and I was like FUUUCK, what is this?! That was probably in 2004.
Wesz: Mine is probably Immeasurably from Donkey Rollers. But there’s just so many good tracks to choose from!

Well guys, if you like those so much, why didn’t you play them tonight?
Josh: We have a lot of bookings with this kind of concept and we want to try to make it diverse. We don’t want to play the same tracks in every set, that would be boring.

Personally, what’s your favourite track of yourself?
Wesz: Ah! …
Josh: It was never released. It was with D-Clear: “Have you ever been?”. It wasn’t good enough at first, the punch was lacking, the melody had that feeling but wasn’t complete.. and then after our studio PC broke down we couldn’t fix it. We just can’t recreate the atmosphere that was in that track.
Wesz: Autumn Green and RHTM, I guess.. Although RHTM is not that old but it’s.. yeah.

How did you choose the tracks that you played tonight?
Josh: We always play tracks that we absolutely like.

What did you guys eat for breakfast today?
Both: Cigarette and a coffee!

Lastly, why the fuck are you wearing a sweater today, Wesz?
Wesz: Because I’m a moron!
