Hip Hop and Hardstyle?! Aussie duo The Strangerz reveal their new sound!

For five years, Chris Hughes and Hansel Almeida have been crafting hardstyle as “The Strangerz” and over the years, the guys have celebrated some huge achievements in their career such as releases on Scantraxx and A2 Records, an official remix for Frontliner’s “External Life” and even produced the blue stage soundtrack for the Defqon.1 Australia 2014. Building their signature sound over the years, The Strangerz mastered the art of crossing between raw and melodic hardstyle.

And then there were three:
Always on the lookout for a new adventure to challenge themselves musically, it was at the end of 2014 when Chris and Hansel started toying with a new concept that would eventually see them team up with one of Australia’s finest underground Hip Hop stars Sky’high.

Chris stated that: ” We had been looking for an MC for years to add to our act and when we came across Sky’High, the rawness in her vocals and her aggression on the mic had us straight away and was exactly what we wanted! We were unsure about her Hip Hop background in the beginning, but after a first studio session we knew this could grow into something very special and unique, an avenue that was yet to be explored within the hardstyle scene. With a big crossover culture in Australia between hardstyle and Hip Hop fans, we think that all of the hardstylers out there will be in for a treat. They’ll be rewarded with the best of both worlds!”

As the signature 3rd member and the MC for the act, Sky’High will be the notorious lyrical genius in their upcoming tracks and she will also perform on stage alongside the two hardstyle maniacs as part of the complete new LIVE experience.

When we asked Sky’High about her about the project, her enthusiasm shines through: “I loved their vision and what they were about, so I wanted to be involved in the project. It’s such a different genre compared to what I usually do, but I love like the energy of the music as it allows me to show my wilder side!”

A new signature sound will be born…
The Strangerz have always been renowned for their approach to raw hardstyle, however in their upcoming releases, their sound will take a whole new turn. Fused with the sounds of hip-hop and utilising their secret weapon MC Sky’High, the guys will be breaking new ground and pushing all the boundaries of traditional hardstyle.

Revealing that they wanted to approach their music a little differently, Chris goes on to state that: “Rather than being cooped up inside of the ‘raw’ box, we want to make music that we feel works. In our new tracks you can expect elements from many genres such as hip-hop, trap and grime blends. We really want to steer clear of the standard kick and screech tracks and aim to give something different that still has substance.”

So… What’s next for The Strangerz?
After revealing their new image, Chris, Hansel and Skhai have been putting in the long hours in the studio to cook up some killer new tracks. We can’t wait to see what this power-trio comes up with!
