The Prophet – Interview At The Hardstyle 2000 Countdown
Scantraxx Record Label Showcase
From the 28th of December until the 4th of January, Revulsion FM did the honourable task of putting on the biggest countdown show consisting of the top 2000 hardstyle tracks of all time! This week wasn’t only about the countdown however, there was much more going on such as interviews, guest mixes and who could forget about the label showcases! If you missed the show then have no fear, Alive At Night is here to recap and keep you all updated on the finest details!
On Saturday, the 3rd of January we were accompanied by the lovely team from Scantraxx Records for three hours of madness! I had the pleasure of catching up with the godfather of hardstyle itself, The Prophet to have a chat about Louder as an album, podcast, merchandise line and much more!
*The dream team… MC Da Syndrome & The Prophet*
1. Thanks for chatting with me! Firstly, I want to talk about your concept “Louder.” Now it began as an album but has grown to become a podcast, merchandise line and even a hashtag? Did you think that it would grow that much?
I didn’t even think about it to be honest, it just happened and I went with how I felt. I did the track, the album and after the good response I thought, why not a podcast? All hardstyle or hardcore podcasts are typically only the one genre. I love all types of hard dance music and like to combine this into my podcast.
2. In your opinion, what was your favourite track from your album ‘Louder’ and why?
My favourite track of louder… Hmm… I really like “Fakkin Hardstyle” and “I’m The King” with Adaro, “Tracking The Beat” is also a track that I love. To be honest, I like all of them, that’s why i made it! Also “Hoo-Ey” is great with the vocal by Rob Gee. Yes, the weird russian vocal is Rob Gee!
3. I would like to talk about your track ‘Kickdrum’ a little more. It was at the #1 position on HS.com for two weeks and you also had those hilarious little movies to accompany it. What was the story behind it?
I did the videos to give the music style a bit more fun! Nowadays it’s all about being the best and being the biggest motherfucker and making the biggest hits. It’s not about fun anymore and when you combine fun with music, it is double the fun! Life is fun!
4. Speaking of tracks, I’d like to discuss one particular track. It was played by Ran-D himself closing his Qlimax set, you also played it at HDE live and it was also featured as an ID-ID track in your Louder podcast. Can you tell me a little more about this track?
I can tell you a little bit more about it. *awkward silence and laughing* It’s something I cannot say too much about, yet. But you will be hearing more of it soon.…
5. I also want to talk about your performance at X-Qlusive legends in October. That party was absolutely huge, and as ‘The Godfather’ of hardstyle, did it bring back some memories?
Yeah it did actually. However, I prefer to look into the future instead of looking backwards in my life. I dont want to be one of those ‘old-school masters’ or ‘legends’. It’s nice to be a part of it sometimes, so when they ask me once in a while, I like to play and reminisce as well as see some old faces and old music. In my sets, I prefer to combine the sounds, for example, when I play for one hour I like to mix up 2-3 older tracks, some new ones and something different too.
6. Just coming back to that, you’ve experienced so much over your musical career and in terms of sound, you don’t want to look into past, but in some tracks from the album you combine some older style melodies and elements. Are you going to continue this and do you like how artists experiment with this?
Um… I think that all kinds of music are related to each other, so everybody gets inspired by another. I think that it’s a good thing because there’s a only a certain amount of chords that a guitar and piano plays that somewhere, it has to end. With this whole revolution of production skills and mechanisms, (like FL studio) compared to now, it’s a whole new level. Everyone’s sampling parts and being influenced by parts – back in their mind they’re producing with those ideas. I think it’s good.
7. Being a longstanding figure in the scene, can you tell me the biggest achievement that you’ve had?
It still has to come.
8. What are your career goals for the new year?
Make a lot of music, even more than this year!
9. Finally, what did you eat for breakfast today?
Um… I had bread with very old cheese. I love old cheese, it’s very salty and crunchy – it’s the best!
Thanks to The Prophet for chatting with me and teaching me that cheese is definitely yellow! We wish you the very best for 2015 and we cannot wait to hear your upcoming music!
