Darude four hours late to Defqon.1 booking due to being stuck in ‘Sandstorm.’
Talk about coincidence! Finnish EDM superstar and all-round legend Darude has apologised profusely to fans who were gathered around the mainstage for four hours waiting for his debut performance at Defqon.1.
In an official statement delivered to the press, Darude seemed rather shaken as he explained why he was so late to this milestone performance: “I was so incredibly humbled that I was booked to perform at Defqon.1, let alone on the mainstage, so I made sure that I was ready to leave hours before I was scheduled to play. As I walked outside and towards my car I started to feel a warm breeze hit me, then suddenly it intensified to the point where I couldn’t walk anymore. I tried to run for cover but the combination of wind and sand was so intense that I had to crawl into the foetal position and let it simply take me. I was literally swept up in a sandstorm!”
Minutes later, paramedics and police were immediately called to the scene once a neighbour spotted that it was indeed Darude who was stuck in the sandstorm. Bystanders described the spectacle as horrific, traumatising and slightly entertaining.
Despite this series of unfortunate events, Darude was adamant on performing for the party-people at Defqon.1, so he rang Q-Dance and explained the situation. Stating that he had an extra special set planned with a whole hour of various edits of “Sandstorm,” Q-Dance proceeded to shuffle around the set times last minute and put Darude in place of the Defqon Legends set!
Turning up to the mainstage with sand and dust from head to toe, Darude still managed to put on a performance of a life-time and exclaimed that “aside from the shock and horror of being caught in a sandstorm, this was the best day of my life!”
