AAN’s Picks: Top 10 Tracks of November!
As the days get darker and the coldness crispier, there’s nothing better than music to get you through the winter blues than music! This month there were a ton of brilliant releases, including Radical Redemptions brand new album “The One Man Army” along with many other great single releases. Our aim this month was to bring a versatile list focussing on innovation, production quality and overall appeal.
*Something Different* Scott Brown – Control Your Body
This month and to kick the list off with a bang, we’ve added a little something extra to our list – UK Hardcore prodigy Scott Brown’s latest “Control Your Body.” For those who want to take a step outside the mundane box of “just hardstyle” then I highly recommend checking this track out! It’s fun, melodic and happy, but not TOO happy. Open your mind every once in a while, you never know what you’ll discover…

#10 Kasparov & System Shock – Innocent
Let’s kick things off with some Hardcore! “Innocent” is melodic, yet powerful and also captures that beloved mainstream Hardcore sound that is unfortunately drowned out by up-tempo hardcore in recent years. It’s incredibly refreshing to hear some ‘normal’ Hardcore that doesn’t sound like a malfunctioning helicopter, so kudos to Kasparov and System Shock on this energetic hit!

#9 Phuture Noize – Existence Through Sound
Kicking off his solo career with a bang, young mastermind Phuture Noize has already wowed listeners with his brand new 3-track EP. The titled track “Existence Through Sound” is emotional, well-produced and explores a whole new avenue that many raw producers don’t dare to go down. Taking the concept of atmospheric raw (or raw that sounds like real music) to the next level, Phuture Noize has become one of the leading names behind this notion; let’s hope that more producers catch on.

#8 Stephanie – Sicknite (Devin Wild Remix)
He’s young, he’s taking the scene by storm and he can manage to turn an old classic into gold! Devin Wild is a producer that everybody should keep their eye on; his productions are next-level good and are even outdoing the efforts of the older, more experienced names in melodic hardstyle. His remix of Stephanie’s “Sicknite” brings forth some seriously groovy vibes and let me tell you, there’s a 99% chance it’ll be stuck in your head for a while!

#7 Activator – Rocking By Myself
Alright, let’s just set this straight, Activator is one of the most diverse, yet under rated producers that this scene has and it’s time that we show this dude some well-deserved appreciation! His newest segment of “Veteran Of Style” caters within the ‘nu-style’ sound, otherwise known as the time around 2009-2012. Among this sector of the album lays “Rockin By Myself,” a feel-good track with a beautiful melody and a piece of art that will certainly take you back to those good ole’ days…

#6 D-Block & S-te-Fan – Drop It Down
“Drop It Down” is quite a refreshing surprise among DBSTF’s turbulent year. With the pair announcing that they will be focussing on other genres, the Hardstyle scene may have thought that they were leaving, but after releasing two new hits, we very well know that they are here to stay! The track itself is powerful, hard-hitting and goes off on in a live setting – it’s everything any DBSTF fan could wish for…

#5 B-Freqz – Overdose
The kings of atmospheric raw, or better known as B-Freqz are back again with some heavy-hitting shit! When I first heard the vocals in “Overdose” I thought “what the fuck, this is SO Australian” and well, other than the fact that it’s a precise sum-up of Aussie drug culture, it also fits quite nicely among the B-Freqz sound. Piloting the whole ‘raw done right’ movement, we’d love to hear what B-Freqz have cooked up for us in 2016!

#4 Activator – Get Dum
We just couldn’t resist adding this groovy number into the list! Not only does it bring back beloved memories from the ‘golden era’ but it’s also a track that not many Hardstyle fans are aware of. “Get Dum” has an incredible melody and the all-round atmosphere is also worthy of mention; Activator has seriously nailed this one! Instead of listening to the same old classics, you should definitely listen to Activator’s Nu-Style part of “Veteran Of Style,” you’ll be surprised with some of the golden tunes on there.

#3 Radical Redemption – Die Bitch
It wouldn’t be fair if our entire top 10 consisted of tracks from newly released album “One Man Army,” so we decided to pick our favourite, “Die Bitch” and it’s not just for the catchy vocals. The track itself features such clever use of percussion in there and with Radical Redemption’s background in drumming, we love how he incorporates this unique element into Hardstyle – it’s something that not many artists can do, let alone do it right. It’s raw, yes, but accessible and a track that all Hard Dance fans can enjoy, which is another reason why this banger made it so high on our list this month!

#2 Coone – Love For The Game
“I will never sell my soul and leave this army behind…” Coone’s new track “Love For The Game” says it all. Outlining the message that this Belgian pioneer isn’t aiming to be another sell-out, the sound of this track backs it up further with its powerful sound and refreshing melody. If it was some overly-cheesy track then I’d be thinking again, but no, Coone does it again and proves that his productions in Hardstyle are here to stay! Big ups to you, Coone!

#1 *WINNER* D-Block & S-te-Fan – Higher
Does that high-pitched vocal remind you of anything? Could this be the new Music Made Addicts…? Did DBSTF just redeem themselves with one track? Our answer for all is “yes.” After a few years of releasing music that didn’t hold such a strong identity, Dutch duo D-Block & S-te-Fan have stolen the hearts of Hardstyle fans with their newest release “Higher.” This track is not one you will get sick of easily, the catchy melody, huge atmosphere and of course, those vocals compose a full-package floor-filler that’s consequently taken our number one spot! Bundled up with another great release “Drop It Down,” it’s evident that D-Block & S-te-Fan have got their mojo back and boy, we’re praying that they have some more great music on its way!
