10 incredible things that happened at Defqon.1
Wow, what a weekend that was! From Friday’s early afternoon, right up ‘till Monday morning, weekend warriors gathered and celebrated like never before. As always, Defqon.1 proves itself to be the core of all harder styles events and Q-dance definitely succeeded in ensuring that each and every visitor exited the festival terrain in complete awe.
Each and every one of you all had a unique Defqon.1 experience and today I’m going to share 10 of my personal favourite moments from last weekend!
#10. Watching the visitors of Defqon.1 repeatedly losing their shit
If there’s something that never gets old, it’s watching visitors going all out for three days straight! Even on the Sunday afternoon, when people are sleep-deprived, half-cooked and dying inside, they still continue to party and enjoy the music. I didn’t not see one visitor who appeared to be taking the weekend for granted.
#9. Legends, revived
Wow, it was incredible to have Showtek and Headhunterz back up on that stage! It was truly amazing to see the duo back in action and in front of a Hardstyle audience once again and well, as for Headhunterz, he made himself pretty obvious.
#8. The moment we entered the gates to the festival
Upon entering the holy gates to Defqon.1, it felt as though someone had unleashed a cage of wild butterflies in my stomach! The fact that you have no idea what’s yet to happen throughout the weekend is simply exhilarating and although I’ve attended Defqon a few times, the excitement of the unexpected never seems to fade.
#7. I got a massage in the artist lounge
Towards the back of the artist lounge were two massage tables, set up with the purpose to provide joy and relive tension for all in the lounge. I was game enough to get a massage right after Peacock’s live set and man, what a great decision that was! I was slightly tipsy and Da Tweekaz were blasting tunes from the mainstage – what more could I have asked for?!
#6. The artist lounge in general
The artist lounge this year was LIT! Although it was missing the beloved photo booth, Q-dance ensured that guests were well taken care of with delicious food, beverages and even nangs. Yes, there was a nang canister behind the bar for those in need of a balloon. Further, socialising and meeting new people in the lounge is always a lot of fun and this years’ lounge also provided an A-class view of the mainstage!
#5. POWER HOUR
Eight jumps to the left, and eight jumps to the right! I thought I’d get trampled during that crazy tradition, however all limbs remained intact. Power Hour was complete fucking insanity; from the beginning right up ‘till the end, visitors of the mainstage went completely crazy. The tunes this year were also superb and I even got to first-handily witness Frenchcore blasting from the colossal sound-system!
#4. The Closing Ceremony
Sunday’s closing ceremony was emotional, dramatic, awe-inspiring and spectacular – all wrapped into one three hour extravaganza! Something I especially enjoyed was the diverse range of artists who had the opportunity to step up on the mainstage and spin 5-10 minutes of tunes. In the end, it was like a big fucking party up there, so GG to Q-dance for opting for something different this year!
#3. My beachside wedding with Angernoizer
So, some of you may not know this yet, but I got married on the weekend to Terror king Angernoizer. We had a beautiful beachside wedding and were married by an Australian girl with glitter all over her face. There was alcohol, and lots of it. We are now about to head to the airport to go on our honeymoon to Ibiza. My mother however, is not impressed…
#2. Not one, but two incredible endshows
Despite my innate sadness that there was an absence of Hardcore in the endshow, all in all, I think that the show itself lived up to its expectations and was spectacular as usual. Something I can’t shake from my mind whilst fireworks are spitting out of the stage is “damn, Q-dance is making it RAIN!”
#1. PEACOCK IN CONCERT
Fuck Headhunterz ‘return,’ my ultimate highlight of the weekend was PEACOCK IN CONCERT. Myself and two friends of mine were situated in the artist lounge after 6PM, however once I checked my phone, only to realise it was almost 6:30, I grabbed them and we immediately bolted towards the BLACK stage.
Arriving just two minutes after his set, we pushed our way through the packed-out area to find ourselves a tiny spot in the middle. It was magical, energetic and emotional all in one – I cried, took my shirt off, cried again and enjoyed the sweaty Frenchcore pit for thirty minutes straight. Also, towards the end of the set, lil’ beb Sefa jumped up on stage and everyone in the crowd erupted into a sea of cheers. It was a legendary moment… Seriously, for those who were there, I’m sure they can vouch that this was the set of the whole damn weekend.
