Ophidian truthfully opens up about his struggles in latest recap
Notorious for being Hardcore’s token experimentalist, Ophidian is unquestionably one of the most talented and forward-thinking producers within the entire EDM spectrum. With his specialities laying in the underground sounds of Hardcore and Industrial, this fascinating artist has recently shed some light on some of the struggles that come along with straying from the flock.
In the latest addition to his YouTube channel, Ophidian not only speaks about some of the troubles he’s had with his temporary studio situation, but also voices some of the struggles he’s had in the Hardcore industry throughout 2016. Outlining that the Hardcore scene and its music has dramatically changed, Hoyer states a statement that literally broke my heart:
“It’s really difficult to play at parties and festivals if you’re standing before an audience that doesn’t really want you there…”
As much as people try to cover it up, the majority of Hard Dance fans go with the crowd and follow what’s hot, easy or dance-floor ready, and unfortunately for Ophidian, his mind-opening, complex and intelligent productions sadly don’t get the recognition that they deserve. In my eyes he’s one of the most underrated producers and DJ’s our scene possesses, and it’s not only him, there’s plenty of other talented artists falling underneath the radar.
“People are, at best, indifferent to what you do and at worst they really don’t appreciate it and I’ve had instances this year where people have been downright aggressive.”
After continuing on to state that a colleague of his was threatened after having technical difficulties at a party, he follows up with another heart-breaking statement: “That’s no environment you want to make your art in (…) it makes you feel unwelcome.”
The fact that an artist who works so hard to deliver music to us feels ‘unwelcome’ in our scene is simply appalling – no artist should feel that way, especially one with over a decade of experience under his belt…
