AAN’s Picks – Top 10 Releases Of June!
June, June, June, you thought that we weren’t going to survive you! After a long month of partying and intensity, we are able to have a short reflection of this month and what the artists have brought to the table. With a shitload of releases out this month (some better than others, of course), these are the top 10 tracks we have picked out that have shined with originality, flavour and have been playing on repeat at the AAN HQ!
#10. Crystal – Pherato
Pherato are a stylish duo that we should all be keeping our eyes onto! Other than being notorious for dressing in all black, these guys also have quite the knack for production and as Scantraxx’s secret weapon, their melodic and powerful sound is bouncing them to the top! Crystal could have done with a vocal here and there, but other than that I love the Summer vibes that it delivers and the ‘unstoppable’ sounding melody.

#9. Audiophetamine – Audiofreq
Cheeky and freqy, Audiofreq is back again with another killer release ‘Audiophetamine!’ Like the rest of his discography, this track is refined and perfected down to the smallest little sounds and details! There’s a certain charge that your soul is pumped up with when listening to Audiofreq’s music, it’s that kind of energy that will get you through those grueling workouts and will cheer you up when your world feels hopeless and his latest track definitely delivers that craved energy!

#8. Outta My Way (Endymion Remix) – Brennan Heart
Damn, that’s a pretty sweet spin on a modern classic. One of Brennan Heart’s harder tracks was explored from a whole new perspective by the notorious duo Endymion and let me tell you, this track has the ability to tear festival goers a new one. Blindly hearing this track you’re able to immediately hear Endymion’s charm and it’s impressive that these guys have established their signature sound so early on in the raw hardstyle game. This track is packed full with energy and will have you out-lifting the guys on steroids at the gym!

#7. Bitterness – Wasted Penguinz
Last weekend, I got to experience the Swedish kannelbullars (AKA Wasted Penguinz) at Defqon.1 and their performance was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. When they played Bitterness, my heart melted and made me come to the conclusion that their warming melodies just might be making a bigger comeback than anticipated. Combined with a slight punch of trance and a shitload of feels, prepare to have those shivers running up and down your spine.

#6. Solaris – Sephyx
As you guys have seen from previous release articles, one of the talents that we give a lot of support to is Sephyx. Here’s why: this kid isn’t simply making fairy-floss melodies or rawstyle that resembles a construction site more than music. This young producer combines actual musical elements such as guitars (and chickens) into the music, giving it a whole new edge with a touch of an unmatchable flavour! Back again with another catchy masterpiece, ‘Solaris’ brings some majestic and Summer vibes that will have you literally rolling around naked with a smile on your face (guilty).

#5. Nightcrawler – Endymion & MC Nolz
Picture this: you’re 15 years old and want to sneak out of the house at midnight and go to a party which means only one thing – incognito mode. You tiptoe out of your room and make your way to the back door before you make your escape… Oh and then you hit someone in the face with your stainless steel… No but seriously, if anybody knows how to get your imagination going, it’s Endymion and the more I can imagine scenario’s whilst listening to music, the better the track is! The sly and cheeky atmosphere in Nightcrawler is so unique and is something I don’t hear often in hardstyle, so kudos to Endymion!

#4. Mixmaster – The Prophet
Did someone say reverse bass?! The godfather is back again with this groovy lil’ number which just goes to show that sometimes less is more. Whenever I hear Mixmaster, I think of a sweaty little underground club somewhere in the middle of Europe that is packed with sweaty ravers dressed in windbreakers, round sunglasses and other miscellaneous sports gear. Yep, the memories are real… Mixmaster has no hidden agendas and no pretentiousness – it’s a real party track!

#3. Terrordome – Phuture Noize
Amongst the game changing album “Phuture Propaganda” lays Terrordome. Simple, catchy, emotional and reeling, this track takes an unusual approach to raw hardstyle and this boundary breaking style has really paid off. Although the kicks don’t sound like a demolition site and the screeches don’t sound like a dying cat, Phuture Noize have really done things right in terms of sound design and telling a story. Let me tell you, I feel very ‘welcome’ in this Terrordome now.

#2. World At Peace – Josh & Wesz
When I saw that Josh & Wesz had been resurrected back into the hardstyle scene after some quiet years I was excited to say the least, however I wasn’t sure what they were going to come up with. After hearing “Retrospect” and “Resurgence” I knew that these guys were onto something truly special and after hearing “World At Peace” the hardstyle genre actually started making sense again. This track brings so much intensity and feeling to the surface, it brings back memories yet doesn’t take away from the high-quality and most importantly, it’s not cheesy, it’s not raw – it’s pure hardstyle.

#1. Solar – Noisecontrollers & Bass Modulators *Winner*
Looks as though Noisecontrollers and Bass Modulators have been quite inspired by some of that beloved deep house saxophone and let me tell you, this track is one of the most fresh and innovative things I have heard in years! Most producers run straight to putting in some cheesy EDM inspired melody or some brutal vocal and this is why NC/BM have climbed their way to the top and have proven to be the ultimate production match made in heaven. When I heard this track being blared out loud on the Sunday at Defqon.1, all I wanted to do was strip down naked in the middle of the crowd, crack open a bottle of champagne and literally shower in it – the feeling that I got from this track was so incredible and unmatchable, I can safely say that ‘Solar’ is up in the top 10 best modern hardstyle tracks. What I’d love to see next is a special live-act with NC/BM… ;)
