23-year old musical genius Porter Robinson is typically known for his supernatural productions that blend glitchy sounds, floaty feels and unusual, yet superb storylines. Despite not being deemed as a Hard Dance artist, many of you surely would’ve been touched by classic Porter releases such as “Unison,” “Lionhearted” and “Language” amongst others.
Earlier this year, Porter Robinson’s name was plastered across the Hard Dance scene when a rather upbeat remix of his 2014 release “Sad Machine” surfaced. With the honours going to UKHC legends Darren Styles and his partner-in-crime Gammer, the pair added their signature golden touch to this already-brilliant track which meant huge things for the growth of UK Hardcore. During our exclusive interview with Styles, he revealed that he’s been a huge fan of Porter Robinson and “jokingly asked Porter over twitter if they could remix ‘Sad Machine.'” Moments later, the parts were in grasp of Styles and Gammer and the rest was history!
You’d think that this remix would be a little risky to play in front of a non-Hardcore crowd, however Porter seemed to debunk that myth when he not only dropped the “Sad Machine” remix, but also a handful of other random Happy Hardcore tracks during a show at infamous Japanese nightclub MOGRA.
Judging by footage that’s recently swarmed the net, enjoyment is an understatement for Porter as we may just have a new Happy Hardcore recruit. Word also has it that he even played a handful of Hardstyle tracks during last years’ Halloween bash ‘Escape’ and even dropped a crossbreed/industrial mash-up by The Outside Agency at Tomorrowland!
It seems like giving the ‘finger’ to genres may just be the new thing. Check out the footage below!
