#TBT – A well-deserved tribute to Coone’s “Words From The Gang”
With the summer season in full swing and some of the most gorgeous events already behind us, it’s time to ponder on what makes these kinds of events possible in the first place. Personally, I think that the undying devotion from fans is really what sets us aside and creates ample possibilities for new and exciting concepts and not to mention, the everlasting love and passion projected by the artists and organisations themselves.
In light of this brilliant festival season that’s already been filled with milestones, I decided to dedicate a special #TBT to the notion of having pure and undying ‘love for the music.’ When thinking about the true meaning of this statement, I think about a certain bad-ass jam that never ceases to get stuck in my head! The lyrics (by Mr Ice) have been some of the most memorable within Hardstyle’s extensive discography and there have been several kick-ass remixes to match. So, without further ado, we’re proud to present to you our #TBT for this week – give it up for “Words From The Gang” by Dirty Workz head honcho Coone.
Released back in 07, it was the lyrics in this track that threw the scene into a curveball. Highlighting the ever-growing love for Hard Dance music, rightfully dissing those who are satisfied by ordinary pop music, and of course, warning phoneys to not get involved unless they share a mutual love with music, this evergreen hit really speaks to its listeners. Quickly climbing to be deemed as one of Hardstyle’s most influential and iconic anthems, “Words From The Gang” was also evidently one of Coone’s most stunning successes – any true Coone fan would undoubtedly place this gem in their top 10.
Aside from the original, remixes started flowing in; first by D-Block & S-te-Fan in 2008 who added their own spin, marking yet another unforgettable piece of work for them and at the conclusion of 2014, Coone revealed an exclusive 2014 remix, which puts the original on a pedestal with renewed production techniques.
Before I wrap this week’s #TBT, I think it’s the perfect time to leave it at this: “If you’re not in it for the love of the music, would you please fuck off!”
