Sun Studios Presents The Necessity of Excess Exhibition Opening

Art and music lovers, gather round! Ever wondered what happens when you combine the art and the harder styles? It’s one thing to see the beautiful party shots popping up after Defqon.1, however it’s another to see them in their utmost artistic form. For our Australian readers who have a passion for art and a zest to uncover something deeper than the usual ‘photograph,’ then your prayers have been answered as their is an exhibition devoted to Australia’s Defqon.1!

The artwork at the exhibition will be showcased by Swiss-born artist Urs Buhlman. This opening of the exhibition is on Friday, 22nd July is invite only, however the remainder of the exhibition will be open to the public.

Sun Studios will present The Necessity of Excess taking place at 42 Maddox St, Alexandria NSW 2015 on Friday 22 July from 6:30pm – 8:30pm featuring Photographer Urs Buhlman’s series documenting Defqon.1, the infamous Hardstyle festival held in Penrith.

The desire to shoot something out of his photographic comfort zone and routine lead Urs Buhlman to embark on a two-year personal project documenting Defqon.1. The Necessity of Excess is a combination of Buhlman’s photographic character – documentary and photo journalistic with a dramatic advertising grade and a graphic symbolic intent. Buhlman hopes to give viewers a taste of what a Defqon.1 festival comprises, and gain an insight and understanding towards this unique subculture – a channel of escapism amongst a growing trend of extreme entertainment.

The exhibition runs until 31 July 2016, so get in there and experience something extraordinary.
